Explore Your Habitat this NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEK
NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEK is April 17-23rd
A celebration of wildlife and wild places!
This year’s theme for NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEK is “Exploring Nature in Your Neighborhood.” NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEK will continue to tackle current issues and raise student’s interest in environmental topics.
The Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs and The Pennsylvania Wildlife Federation are teaming up with the National Wildlife Federation to distribute materials for NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEK.
NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEK is an educational program of the National Wildlife Federation that emphasizes teaching and learning about wildlife and wildlife conservation topics during the earth week celebration. This year, single copies of award-winning Ranger Rick® magazine are available to traditional & non-traditional educators, and home school parents. This issue contains four pages that encourage families and kids to celebrate NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEK with an exciting menu of outdoor activities, including a treasure hunt, keeping a nature journal, planting a butterfly garden, and protecting wildlife habitat. The issue also highlights real children and the inspiring commitments they have made to protecting wildlife and wild places. National Wildlife Federation has developed a website (www.nwf.org/nationalwildlifeweek) that houses curriculum information that corresponds with the articles, activities and stories in the magazine.
The website curriculum resource will be available and archived so that educators may utilize the magazine as an educational resource at their own pace. The website also contains curriculum and activities for past issues of Ranger Rick.
Whether you live in a city, suburb, small town, or out in the country, nature is all around you. Take this opportunity to get outside, explore, and discover something new right in your own neighborhood. The activities invite you and your students to open your eyes to the world around you and investigate the connections between people, places, and wildlife. In the schoolyard, in a neighborhood park, or on the trails of a local nature center, make this NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEK a joyful celebration. Celebrate what makes your place unique, and at the same time, celebrate the contributions each of you can make to protect and improve it!
To request a copy of the magazine please contact the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs Harrisburg Headquarters at (717) 232-3480 or email info@pfsc.org.
